Dysmenorrhea: Causes, symptoms, and treatment
Menstrual cramps are known as Dysmenorrhea. The menstrual pain a woman can get 2 days before it starts, first and the second day mostly during her period. Some experience severe pain that even they find difficulties in their routine tasks. The primary and secondary, there are two types of Dysmenorrhea. In primary type, pain is due to a normal menstrual period but in secondary, there may be infections or disorder in reproductive organs.Symptoms:
Pain in lower abdominal
Pain sometimes in lower back, thighs and hips
Nausea and vomiting
Headache
Fatigue
Diarrhea
Causes
• Fibroids - benign tumour within the uterine wall• Endometriosis - the tissue form the lining in the uterus starts developing outside of the uterus
• Sexually transmitted infections(STI)
• Pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) - infection caused by bacteria develop in the uterus and spread to reproductive organs
• Cervix stenosis a small cervical opening that prevents menstrual flow
Treatment
In primary dysmenorrhea, medication can help, painkiller for severe pain and nausea medicine for vomiting and nausea. In secondary dysmenorrhea some tests will be required to examine the infection in reproductive organs, this may include ultrasound, CT scan, MRI and laparoscopy.
